LEAR IS HERE! BROOKLYN, NEW YORK - The Waterloo Bridge Theatre Company proudly presents William Shakespeare’s King Lear. The production runs May 13 through May 30; Thursday-Saturday at 8 pm, and Sundays at 3 pm. Noted as one of Shakespeare's greatest tragedies, director Michael Hagins heightens the comedy, swordplay, and other more subtle aspects of the play while continuing The Waterloo Bridge tradition of breaking down the imaginary fourth wall that separates the audience from the actor. This production utilizes the recent changes we made to our playhouse. Those changes give The Waterloo Bridge Playhouse a setting reminiscent of theatres like The Globe, The Rose, and The Blackfriars. At these playhouses, the audience surrounded the stage and sat on benches to truly share an experience that was unique to the specific time those particular spectators came to watch. Since no seat is more than six feet from the stage, the spectators are not just watching a given a production, but becoming a participant with their energy, reactions and proximity to the players. The Waterloo Bridge Playhouse is located at 475 Third Avenue {just off 10th Street} in Park Slope, Brooklyn. To get there take the F, M, N & R trains to 4th Ave-9th Street. Tickets are $15, $10 for students. For information and to make reservations call 212.502.0796.
